Depicted magnificent and also artistically really valuable Baroque stucco reliefs of St. James the Bigger (Sv. Jakub Vetší), St. Francis of Assisi (Sv. František z Assisi) and St. Anthony of Padua (Sv. Antonín Paduánský), are decorating front facade of the Church of St. James the Bigger (Kostel Sv. Jakuba Vetšího) in Prague's old Town. The reliefs are work of sculptor Ottavio Mosto from the end of XVIIth century.
Ottavio Mosto came from the circle of the Roman sculptor Lorenzo Bernini, from whom he adopted his illusive style, which is best seen in the three stucco reliefs on the Church of St. James the Bigger. Mosto came to Prague before 1697 upon invitation from count Thun-Hohenstein, to create a statue of St. Michael the Archangel at the corner of the Tuscany palace. Apart from that, he sculpted the statue of St. Wenceslas surrounded by angels for the Charles Bridge, probably in 1697. He was the first representative of Baroque illusionism in Bohemia.
Church of St. James the Bigger, originally Gothic structure, became after a grandiose rebuilding in 1690-1702 one of the principal treasures of sacral Baroque art in the frame of Central Europe.
