The Albert Memorial is situated in Kensington Gardens, London, England, directly to the north of theRoyal Albert Hall. It was commissioned by Queen Victoria in memory of her beloved husband, Prince Albert who died of typhoid in 1861. The memorial was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in theGothic Revival style.
Its worth walking off the path and climbing up the steps to take a closer look at what is one of the most impressive monuments in London. Completed in 1875 there's a wealth of detail only visible on closer inspection including 169 carved figures and groups representing the sciences, continents and industry. The four pillars each weigh 17 tons each alone.
