It was built by Corrado Cagli for the art of ‘Agnes of Hohenstaufen Spontini prepared for the Maggio Musicale in 1974. The sculpture, with the structure of pipes and steel sheets plated, represented in stage design at the same time an imperial eagle and a cage / prison.

www.irre.toscana.it:

Translation
The sculpture by Corrado Cagli, caged bird, made of metal pipes, was part of the scenography of Agnes of Hohenstaufen of Spontini for Maggio musicale of 1974; was placed in this flowerbed, after a first one-with the outdoor amphitheater of the Farms, with a certain laziness and approximation, without any concern for the total lack of context, perhaps only a vague reference to the nearby airport.
The sculpture looks like an enormous and slight tangle of metal plates and pipes, in which stands out the predilection for clear lines and angolose that we also find in the painting by the artist, in which it is stated, only after a careful observation, the contents of the title.
The work is thus hardly interpretable and appreciable, as when it was part of a complex scenogràfia, inspired by and linked to the style of music. For"Agnes" by Spontini, who was the last engagement of Cagli for the Teatro Comunale, the artist had adopted several solutions: in the sketches for the costumes suggested reasons for great wealth, while in the scene had recourse to the use of elements of their Tapestry and sculpture, almost historical complex quotes references and suggestions. For Cagli, in fact, work on the scene was not a marginal aspect, but a time where research faced with new stresses figurative and spatial experiences: obvious aspect of his inexhaustible interest in experimentation (D.S.).
