Tijdens de overzichtstentoonstelling van Van Gogh in 1990 werd de ruim vijf ton wegende sculptuur op het Museumplein geplaatst, als protest tegen de vercommercialisering van de kunst.
Eind maart 1990 wilden Réwinkel en van Pieck met het kunstwerk commentaar leveren op - vonden zij - de kunstmatig opgewekte Van Gogh-hysterie en de passieve reactie van de kunstenaarswereld hierop. Réwinkel: 'Kunst is voor ons niet vijf rijen dik naar een schilderij kijken, zoals destijds bij de Van Gogh-kermis.' Ze kunnen er nog steeds om lachen als ze terugdenken aan de illegale plaatsing. Réwinkel: ''Rond die tentoonstelling was veel beveiliging. De politie zag ons ook met vijf man, een vrachtwagen en een hijskraan het beeldwerk plaatsen. Ze moet gedacht hebben dat het kunstwerk deel uitmaakte van de tentoonstelling. Want wie plaatst er nou illegaal een kunstwerk ?''
Zes jaar heeft het er gestaan, maar maart 1996 werd het verwijderd in verband met de herinrichting van het plein. De makers overwogen een kort geding. Réwinkel: ''Ze weten bij het stadsdeel wie wij zijn, maar hebben het kennelijk niet nodig gevonden contact met ons op te nemen. Dat pikken we niet.''
Na twee jaar opslag is het beeld geplaatst in het Beatrixpark. Réwinkel en Van Pieck tot Beest hebben steeds gestreefd naar een andere plek voor het betonnen kunstwerk, nadat het vanwege de herinrichting van het Museumplein daar moest verdwijnen.''Het is ons gelukt de spontaniteit te laten winnen van de strikte regels. Wij hebben het altijd legitiem gevonden een beeld cadeau te doen aan de mensen door het op een open plek neer te zetten'', zegt Réwinkel tevreden.

‘Op een dag leken ze zomaar uit de grond gerezen, die vuisten. Als reuzenbloemen-in-knop stonden ze tussen de duizenden krokussen. Vond ik het beeld mooi ? Niet onmiddellijk, maar er vrijwel elke dag langs fietsend, jaar in jaar uit, werden de vuisten me vertrouwd en daarna zelfs geliefd. Ze leken me aan te moedigen: 'Ga er met je volle gewicht tegenaan !'’
