Het kunstobject van Knops werd in 1985 gemaakt voor een vroeger pleintje in de Zaanstraat, tegenover de fiets- en voetgangerstunnel naar het park. De opdracht kwam voort uit het Structuurplan beeldende kunst Westerpark/Overbrakerpolders van Aart Wevers uit datzelfde jaar. Het beeld accentueerde als een markant element de ingang van de tunnel.
Met de aanleg van de Jan Wolkerstuin is het in 2010 verplaatst naar de huidige locatie waar het op vergelijkbare wijze tegenover het spoorwegviaduct is gepositioneerd.
De grote zuil omvat met een band de kleinere, naar opzij buigende zuil. Het gebruik van de primaire kleuren geel en blauw en daarnaast wit, intensiveren het speelse effect.
Knops (Simpelveld, 1945) maakt beelden in chroomnikkel staal. Hij slijpt en polijst dit moeilijk bewerkbaar materiaal en transformeert het tot ritmische, soms speelse abstracte composities.

The art object of Knops in 1985 was created for an earlier square in Hill Street, opposite the bicycle and pedestrian tunnel to the park.
