The celebration of the 85th Anniversary of The Peninsula Hong Kong was highlighted with a fascinating animation which illustrated the incredible stories of the hotel and Hong Kong. With Hong Kong Arts Centre and Public Art Hong Kong as the Artistic Partners, renowned artist Lee Chi Ching was being invited to create a 3.5 metres long masterpiece with ink drawing and it was turned into a 3-minute animation ‘The Moment’. The dazzling animation was on display at the facade of The Peninsula Hong Kong from 12 to 14 December, 2013 at 7:30pm, 8:30pm and 9:30pm.

The culmination of The Peninsula Hong Kong’s 85th anniversary celebrations reached a spectacular crescendo with an illuminated, animated art spectacle for the hotel's birthday gala on 11 December 2013, and the three evenings beyond, from 12-14 December. Acclaimed Chinese ink artist Lee Chi Ching utilised the hotel’s classic facade to tell the story of Hong Kong, the city The Peninsula is proud to call home, in a painting which was animated and brought to life as a 3-D projection.
It was the fitting pinnacle of a year of heritage-inspired Afternoon Tea Dances, youth arts performances, and meaningful initiatives that saw HK$ 4 million raised, to be split equally between the hotel's four not-for-profit partners including Make-A-Wish®, St James’ Settlement Funeral Navigation Service, the Hong Kong Hereditary Breast Cancer Family Registry, and the Hong Kong Council of Social Service, through which the hotel established an incubating fund for social enterprises; in addition to founding a Scholarship for Gastronomic Excellence in Dim Sum, to preserve the disappearing art of dim-sum making among young chefs. With the help of the Hong Kong Arts Centre and Public Art Hong Kong, artist Lee Chi Ching charted the shared legacy of Asia's Grande Dame and her beloved Hong Kong.

Lee Chi Ching (Chinese: 李志清; pinyin: Lǐ Zhìqīng; born 1963) is a Hong Kong Manhua illustrator with the pen name"Qing'er" (清兒). Lee began drawing comics and graphic novels in 1981. In 1992, he won an award for his watercolors at the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Biennial and had his work housed at the Hong Kong Museum of Art. He is the first cartoonist from Hong Kong to have his work published in Japan. His speciality is in historical Manga, usually based on pre-existing classic novels, including the works of Wuxia writer Louis Cha. His major works include Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Water Margin.
