Vennero chiamati"angeli del fango" quei ragazzi che all'indomani dell'alluvione fiorentina del 4/11/1966 giunsero in città come volontari ad aiutare la popolazione e collaborare nel salvataggio soprattutto dei libri conservati nei sotterranei di numerose biblioteche.
C'ero anch'io, giunto da Milano con un pullman di universitari; dormivamo in due carrozze ferroviarie alla stazione di S.Maria Novella e passammo circa due mesi a trasbordare libri dalle cantine all'aperto, poi a pulirli e portarli in essiccatoi improvvisati curandone l'asciugatura. Per variare si andava ogni tanto a spalare fango da case che si affacciavano sull'Arno.

The stele in bronze with marble boulder stands where in 1955 it was placed a pergola destroyed dall’alluzione 1966. Dedicated to ‘mud angels’ and to those manifested concretely their solidarity in Florence. Obvious reference to Egyptian reliefs and in the form of the stele.
