In a snapshot you understand that this artwork has a message. But it takes a while before you can bring this into words. I give it a try.
From a distance you recognize two men, a special attitude of dancers perhaps, a high headdress that should by African.
The two men are both flunked in exactly the same way by their knees, have their buttocks backwards, their chests forward, adorned with a bizarre high headdress. The faces are hardly recognizable; the artwork has apparently something to say in general but not so much something personal.
The high ornament is monumental in some kind, is reffering to an important event with strong emotions are involved.
The playfulness of their legs, hips and breasts are in contrast to the high columns on their heads.
In my opinion the artwork aks attention for a special culture of a resilient people with profound experiences. For me, it's not completely clear which culture or experiences are involved. I cannot make good contact with the subject, which I find unfortunate.

Van een afstand herken je twee mannen, een bijzondere houding van misschien dansers, een hoge hoofdtooi dat vast Afrikaans is.
De twee mannen zijn op exact dezelfde wijze door hun knieën gezakt, hun billen naar achteren, hun borst naar voren, getooid met een bizar hoge tooi. De gezichten zijn moeilijk zichtbaar; het beeld wil blijkbaar iets algemeens maar niet zozeer iets persoonlijks zeggen.
Bij de hoge tooi denk ik aan iets monumentaals, aan een belangrijke gebeurtenis, aan een gebeurtenis waar veel emoties mee gemoeid gaan.
De speelsheid van hun benen, heupen en borsten staat in contrast met de hoge kolommen op hun hoofd.
Volgens mij vraagt het kunstwerk aandacht voor een bijzondere cultuur en voor een veerkrachtig volk met ingrijpende ervaringen. Gelukkig is hier ruimte voor. Het is voor mij niet geheel duidelijk om welke cultuur of ervaringen het gaat. Daarom kan ik hier geen goed contact mee maken en dat vind ik jammer.

Kerwin Duinmeijer was het eerste bekende slachtoffer van zinloos geweld en werd in Nederland een symbool in de strijd tegen het racisme. ‘Moeder Rots’ is de titel van het beeld in het Vondelpark naar het Antilliaanse begrip ‘Mama Baranka’ (baranka = rots), als uitdrukking voor de kracht van zwarte vrouwen.
Over ‘Dragers van verre’ schrijft de kunstenaar: ‘Laat ons erbij stil staan dat elk mens, waar hij of zij ook vandaan komt of naar toe gaat, zijn culturele rijkdom heeft meegenomen en uitdraagt. Opdat wij te allen tijde zijn schoonheid mogen ervaren.’
